Maria Elena Valdes was born and raised in Mexico (1991) but began her career as a photographer in St Edwards University, Austin TX where she received her bachelors degree in Photo communications.
Maria Elena’s core work is about story telling. It has a strong documentary approach. Her process begins with the selection of a subject of interest, then creating the environment that allows her to push her subject from the mundane to the beautiful.
She has exhibited some of her work in exhibitions in New York, Mexico City, Austin TX, and Thailand. As well as publications in editorial platforms that include Nowness, Garage, L’Uomo Vogue, Cream Magazine, Cultura Colectiva, Vogue Latin America, Elle México, HOLA! USA, among others.
