ACTION ALERT: Support The Bill for Copyright Small Claims Court Today

Thu 11th Jul, 2019

Advocacy Action Alert - Now is the time to add your voice.

APA has been working closely with a coalition of visual associations, writer associations and the Copyright Alliance, in support of the CASE Act – A bill to create a voluntary small claims board within the Copyright Office.

This legislation provides copyright owners with an alternative to the expensive process of bringing copyright claims in federal court. This new board, called the Copyright Claims Board (CCB), would allow recovery in each case of up to $30,000 in damages total, with a cap of $15,000 in statutory damages per work infringed.

Support for the bill is bipartisan and over 40 Congressional Representatives have already Co-Sponsored the House bill. But it’s not done yet. There has not been a vote.

It’s vital that legislators on both the House and the Senate hear directly from creators about the importance of this issue. Letters received this week and next will make a difference.
