Copyright Alliance Applauds Introduction of the CASE Act in House and Senate

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Copyright Alliance released a statement applauding the introduction of H.R. 2426 and S. 1273, the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act (the CASE Act), intended to provide individual creators with an alternative to federal court for protecting their work.

According to Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid, "We want to thank Representatives Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Doug Collins (R-GA) for their leadership in introducing the CASE Act in the House today, as well as thank the original co-sponsors of the bill, Representatives Hank Johnson (D-GA), Martha Roby (R-AL), Judy Chu (D-CA), Ben Cline (R-VA), Ted Lieu (D-CA), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA). We are also grateful to Senators John Kennedy (R-LA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) for their tremendous support in introducing the CASE Act in the Senate for the first time.

"For more than a decade, individual creators and small businesses have been advocating for a change in the copyright law to address an inequity that has routinely provided them with rights but no remedies. The CASE Act would make very targeted, very modest changes to the copyright law to address this inequity and give America’s creators the tools to protect the fruits of their creativity.

“The CASE Act is a legislative priority for hundreds of thousands of photographers, illustrators, graphic artists, songwriters, and authors, as well as a new generation of creators including bloggers and YouTubers across the country. Today, they have rights but no remedies. The CASE Act will go a long way to restoring their faith in the copyright system.

"We look forward to working with Chairman Nadler (D-NY), Chairman Graham (R- SC), and all the members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, as well as other stakeholders, to ensure that this bill, which is so critical to America's small businesses and to the creative community, is promptly considered and passed."
