The Launch of the American Society of Collective Rights Licensing Inc (“ASCRL”)

Tue 28th Aug, 2018

American Society of Collective Rights Licensing Inc., ("ASCRL") is a new non-profit that helps visual artists get paid for works being used overseas.

ASCRL has begun accepting registrations from authors and rights owners in visual works who are seeking to receive distributions of reprographic funds from the various foreign countries that collect reprographic monies for distribution to United States' author and rights owner community.

ASCRL, which is a member of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRRO), publishes a detailed description of the reprographic funds that it makes eligible for you to claim. You can visit the ASCRL website to get more information about the funds and how they are distributed.  Please note: while ASCRL distributes foreign reprographic funds collected under foreign collective legal systems, ASCRL does not engage in the direct or individual licensing of your work, nor does it police for infringement claims.

It is free to register to receive ASCRL funds.

To become eligible to receive funds, you must go the ASCRL website, and register with ASCRL as a United States Citizen and the author and or owner of copyright in published visual work, or as a Foreign National who is an author and or rights owner in work published in the United States. You must list at least three (3) published visual works to become eligible for ASCRL reprographic distributions.

Once you complete your registration you will be able to submit your claims for reprographic funds through your ASCRL web portal. The ASCRL website has information about qualifications to receive funds, and the site will guide you through the registration and claims process.

The ASCRL website will also permit you to designate APA as a recipient of part (or all) of your reprographic distributions. Please keep APA in mind when completing your ASCRL registration form.
