The US Copyright Office is proposing the adoption of a new fee schedule and is inviting public comment on the new fees.
The fee to register 750 images at one time (the new limit on unpublished works) would increase from $55 to $100.
The Register of Copyrights is required to submit the proposed fee schedule to Congress, which has 120 days to review it before it goes into effect. The Copyright Office notes that the proposed fees remain below its calculated cost of service (with a few exceptions).
The deadline for public comment has been extended to September 21, 2018. We encourage you to respond and let the Copyright Office know the burden is places on individual creators.
The Federal Register notice is available at: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/05/24/2018-11095/copyright-office-fees.
An article outlining the fee increase appears in DIY Photography https://www.diyphotography.net/us-copyright-office-proposes-41-increase-in-copyright-registration-fees/
