Finding Your Voice: Photographing a Changing New York

What happens when you spend decades photographing the same city and refuse to stop looking?

James and Karla Murray have built an extraordinary body of work documenting New York’s independent storefronts, small businesses, and the people behind them. In this conversation, we’ll talk about how they found their visual voice, what keeps them inspired, the challenges of sustaining a long-term personal project, and what they’ve learned from photographing real people and places over so many years. We’ll also get into the realities of working as creative partners, building a career around personal work, and why sometimes the most powerful photographs are hiding in plain sight.
