APA LA presents Stop Wrestling With Color Management with Ford Lowcock

In this workshop, Ford Lowcock, will define the four parts of color management that creatives should know about.  He will define the needed hardware and software required and discuss and compare the different options. Within the two hours, Ford will also demonstrate a possible color managed workflow utilizing all four parts that a creative team (even if it is a one person team!) could implement into a production (low or high budget) shoot.

Who in the world is Ford Lowcock? In a nutshell: Ford proudly retired from Santa Monica College in 2017after 23 full-time years of teaching photography. In his last years, he was Dept. Chair over two disciplines, photography and fashion. Ford started his quest for controlling and understanding color in 1984 when he was hired by a master printer in Austin, Texas.  Ford learned how to create color and contrast masks for Ilfochrome printing (transparencies).  He was taught dye transfer by Jim Bones, one of Elliot Porter’s last printing assistants. Ford never stopped wanting to know more about color control, so he continued self-educating himself in color management as digital came into prominence.  For over 15 years he taught his advanced students basic color managed workflow from sensor and lens testing to camera profiling and how to implement into a capture, to raw processing, to the importance of monitor and printer calibration. His quest to continue learning about and controlling color management issues still remains relevant regardless of the tools being used.
