APA New York Presents Shawn Lee’s Developing Your Photography Practice

Shawn Lee began building his successful photography business in Detroit at a time when the city was bankrupt. Because of this, he was inspired to make sure his personal business had a positive impact, to help rebuild his community. He created a new, innovative business model that transcended the industry and cultural norms and had, at its heart, giving back. His photography is all about fostering kindness and inclusivity to impact change in society.

In his talk, and the Q&A that follows, Shawn will show that, even in tough times, if you bring your authentic self to your work, and to service, you can succeed.

Shawn Lee, Cr. Photog. is the founder and owner of Sh\awn Lee Studios in Southfield, MI. Shawn is the CEO/President of the Multicultural Association of Professional Photographers(MAPP), a non-profit membership organization founded to bring 'people', no matter where they come from, together.  He is the founder of The ROCK THAT Photography Conference & Tradeshow, a national-level conference geared toward diversity that hosts photographers from around the country for 3 days of high-level instruction in Detroit, MI. Shawn is the founder of the ROCK THAT Giveback, a pilot program designed to invest $200K+ in after-school programming for middle and high school students as well as gift cash awards to photographers and creatives who demonstrate hard work, perseverance, and the qualities to succeed.

Shawn is a featured speaker for Miller's Professional Imaging, 17hats Ambassador, Fundy Ambassador, Godox Global Educator of Light, former co-chair of the speaker selection committee for Imaging USA Conference, Executive Producer and Director of Photography for TEDxDetroit, and 2022 Humanitarian of the Year for the Professional Photographers of America.
