Join APA | DC for 30 Minutes with Storytelling Program Officers, David Y. Lee and Sana Ullah, as they present on National Geographic Society's grant opportunities and share insight on what makes a competitive application, on April 7th at 12pm (EST). This virtual event is free to all APA Members, Future APA Members and Students.

David Y. Lee is a Senior Program Officer at National Geographic Society (NGS), with his primary focus on supporting Storytelling grant making for the Society, advancing our community of Storytelling Explorers with their NGS funded projects, and encouraging storytellers on their grant applications. Prior to joining NGS in July 2021, David covered The White House for Time and Newsweek as a photojournalist, served as an official photographer for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, led National Geographic’s global photo community, and most recently, worked at Advancement Project National Office as their Social Impact Storyteller. David also started The Waiting List, a non-profit humanizing the statistics of organ donation with the mission of increasing awareness, empathy, and ultimately, organ donor registration. He has a M.A. in Photography from Ohio University School of Visual Communication.

Sana Ullah is a Program Officer in Storytelling at National Geographic Society (NGS) where she works primarily on grants (including Level I, Level II, and Meridian) and provides support to the Storytelling Explorers throughout their project(s). She is the Point of Contact for the COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists and has helped fund over 300 storytellers from around the world. As part of her role, she often provides support to emerging storytellers interested in becoming an Explorer, leads presentations on grant-writing, sits on the jury for non-NGS grants, and participates as a reviewer at portfolio reviews.

Sana is a visual storyteller with a M.A. in new media photojournalism from George Washington University and a B.S. in digital media studies from Florida International University. Prior to NGS, she has worked for the Smithsonian Institution, PBS KIDS, and Discovery. Her personal portfolio focuses mainly on people of color, women, and/or Muslims. And occasionally her Australian cattle dog, Meeko.
