It’s About Time: A Talk with Amy Arbus

Thu 22nd Jun, 2023 – Thu 22nd Jun, 2023

By APA Admin in New York

Photography, like life, is all about time. It either happens too fast, like the moment a child is born, or too slowly, like inspiration.

In this Zoom presentation, Amy Arbus will take you back to the 1980s when she photographed for On the Street, a style page in The Village Voice. Then she will show her portraits from The Fourth Wall, when she pictured Broadway and off-Broadway actors in character, in costume but out of context of their plays to investigate fictional character verses ‘real people’. In her next book, After Images, Arbus reinterpreted paintings by modernist masters like Picasso, Cezanne, Modigliani and Balthus to explore the lighting and perspective of painted portraits.

Lastly, she will show her most recent work on Circus Performers, in which she will talk about moments we witness that happen so fast we aren’t conscious of seeing them.

A Q&A will follow Amy's talk.

This webinar is FREE for all APA members.

If you are not an APA member, it will cost $25. (You can join APA here.)

***This event will be held on Zoom. We will send you the Zoom link a week before the webinar.
